Mymensingh Tuberculosis & Leprosy Control Project (MTLCP)

Mymensingh TB & Leprosy Control Project has been operational since 1992 in Mymensingh, and Kishoreganj districts covering about 9 million populations. At present MTLCP is composed of 34 combined clinic and microscopy centres including 10 Second Microscopy centers combined TB & Leprosy clinics working inside the health infrastructures of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh with authenticity, dignity and grace. To widespread the service, we established services through DOT Corners in Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital-Bajitpur and Sadar hospital of Kishoreganj. Besides, daily Leprosy service center is functioning at SK hospital, Mymensingh since 1972, other 5 intermittent Leprosy clinics are providing services once weekly, 1 in Sadar, 2 in Phulpur, 1 each in Trishal and Muktagacha Upazilas of Mymensingh district.

DF MTLCP ensures TB treatment support from the community through engaging 2700 Fixed community TB Providers besides the existing union sub-centres and community clinics.

The project is providing specialized hospital care for complicated cases of TB & Leprosy including MDR and XDR-TB by referral hospital situated in Shambhugonj, Mymensingh with the capacity of 100 beds.

The project laboratory has been functioning for FDA staining & slide culture DST (Drug Susceptibility Testing) since 2007. GeneXpert machine, a newer rapid diagnostic tool of sputum examination for detection of TB bacilli and Rifampicin resistance has been functional since 2012. This rapid diagnostic technology is being gradually installed in all upazilas of the project by the NTP.
